Photography

We organised two photoshoots, with a bunch of different bikes & riders (and a big pile of differently coloured t-shirts!), to get most of the photography for the book. We knew it needed to be evocative and powerful, and the light on the Brévent and the Petit Balcon Sud was just right when we shot back in autumn 2011. Pro photographer Charlie Davies did those on his Canon gear.

Charlie’s pics are complemented with some magnificent Chamonix images from MTB photo guru Dan Milner throughout, also shot on Canon, although Dan’s since moved over to Nikon. Big skies, motion blurs and huge atmospherics, as you’d expect from the best in the business.

Naturally, every photo in the book was shot on location in the Chamonix Valley. Nothing’s been tampered with or adjusted; it’s all as the photographers intended.

Thanks also to Glenn Rowley at Yeti Lodge, and Graham Pinkerton at the Chamonix Bike Blog, for extra pics.
